ARTS:
Arts Education
The centerpiece of El Puente’s arts education initiative is the
Integrated Arts Project a partnership with El Puente Academy for Peace & Justice.
Academy teachers collaborate with El Puente teaching artists in developing
and implementing integrated arts curricula focused on current issues
pertinent to the community, such as local garment sweatshops, street
violence, war and environmental concerns. El Puente’s Integrated Arts
Project has recently received much national and state recognition. The
project was featured as a School-based Success Story in the 2001 National
Endowment for the Arts Arts Learning and cited in the National
Governors Association Center for Best Practices issue brief on the Impact of Arts Education on Workforce Preparation. El
Puente recently completed an Integrated Arts Handbook as a practical guide
to for educators, artists and community organizers wanting to develop
projects of their own centered around addressing community and school
concerns. For more information contact Jackie Chang: (718) 387-0404, x16
