El Puente arts training is incorporated into the youth programming at its three centers, Williamsburg
Leadership Center, Bushwick Leadership Center, and MS 50 Beacon. .
The quality of El Puente's training, mentoring and coaching in the arts have enabled students to receive
scholarships to professional arts schools and programs and pursue artistic careers. In
1996, former El Puente member Wilson Jermaine Herreira received the Tony Award
for the 'Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his leading role in RENT, and
more recently former member Andrew ''Lemon'' Andersen starred in Russell Simons'
Def Poetry Jam on Broadway, winner of the 2003 Tony Award for Best Special Theatrical Event.
