JOB POSTING: El Puente Beacon After-School: Group Worker

The El Puente Beacon Leadership Center at Taylor-Wythe in Williamsburg is an after-school arts and enrichment program primarily for elementary youth, with additional middle/high school programming in the evenings. It is part of El Puente, a community organization that also conducts advocacy, organizing and health & wellness activities for the community.  El Puente programs focus on the integration of a community consciousness and artistic development that allows its members to experience their creative potential while learning about social responsibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·          Be a floating classroom assistant for such as homework help and activities

·          Supervise children's behavior in classroom, cafeteria or gym

·          Keep accurate records of youth attendance

·          Responsible for participant recruitment and retention strategies & activities

·          Attend regular staff and supervision meetings & participate in staff development

·          Work with staff to mentor and support youth, as well as to create a safe, supervised, and welcoming environment for students and other staff.

·          Participate in El Puente’s organizational activities when appropriate

·          Collaborate with artists and facilitators on community projects or participate in El Puente events

QUALIFICATIONS:

·          Must have experience in working with in a youth or educational setting (ex: school, afterschool or camp) with youth ages 6-15.

·          Must have knowledge of and experience practicing principles of positive youth development

·          Must have strong group facilitation and classroom management skills

·          Must be a  team player, but able to work independently in a focused manner

·          Spanish language skills desirable

·          High school diploma or GED okay, depending on experience; some college preferred

SALARY & WORK HOURS:

SALARY:  $9/hour 

·          A total of 17.5 hours/week: Mon - Friday 3pm – 6:30pm
